On November 19, 2024, a technical trip to Aytaş Yapı Kale Group was organized as part of the IAED 3505 Detail Studio course, led by Lecturer Canan BEDUR and Lecturer Kadir Emre BAKIR. During the visit, participants gained comprehensive insights into the production processes of ceramic and vitreous ware product groups, their applications in design, and their areas of use.
Representatives from Aytaş Yapı Kale Group provided students with an overview of the historical development of ceramics and innovative approaches in the industry. The presentations emphasized the production of ceramics in various sizes and textures, which boast a wide range of applications from exterior cladding to wet area installations. Particular attention was given to the contribution of color and texture diversity in creating spatial atmospheres and their integration into design. Moreover, the focus on environmentally friendly production processes for ceramic and vitreous ware products served as an inspiration for students to make environmentally conscious decisions in their design projects.
The investigations conducted during the trip highlighted ceramic applications in wet areas, providing valuable insights for students in the IAED 3505 Detail Studio course as they plan elements such as furniture, cladding materials, and surface treatments in alignment with their design goals. The knowledge acquired—ranging from material selection to assembly techniques, surface finishes, and functional detailing—will enable students to develop more informed and creative solutions in their future projects.
In addition to presenting the technical properties, aesthetic possibilities, and application methods of materials, the trip also emphasized critical design details to be considered during the design process.
This technical trip not only offered students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about materials and surfaces but also allowed them to engage directly with industry professionals, addressing their questions regarding the technical aspects of design. In this respect, the trip provided a horizon-expanding experience enriched with both theoretical and practical insights.
We extend our gratitude to Mediterranean Regional Manager Musa YILDIZ, Senior Regional Sales Specialist Hüseyin ATASOY, Sales Manager Ömer ALTUN, and Product Manager Hatice ŞEN for their support in organizing and facilitating this informative trip.
