As part of the "Design Talk" event series organized by the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Antalya Bilim University, M.S. Architects Marwan IBRAHIM and Ahmet ALJENBAZ from YönTime were hosted online on November 22, 2024. Moderated by Res. Asst. Müge DEVELİER, the event was conducted within the scope of the IAED 3301 Human Factor in Interior Space course, offering students a valuable learning experience to understand the impact of wayfinding systems on human experience and spatial perception.

YönTime, a firm specializing in architectural wayfinding systems, provides solutions that facilitate navigation experiences in built environments while supporting the aesthetic integrity of spaces.

During the event, the influence of wayfinding systems on spatial organization, human behavior, and user experience was discussed. The speakers emphasized the role of wayfinding elements in shaping individuals' spatial perception within the context of architecture and interior design. They highlighted the critical importance of understanding the physical layout of spaces and user needs as essential steps in designing wayfinding systems. Additionally, the discussion focused on the significance of designing these systems in line with universal design principles to create inclusive and accessible environments.

The principles of universal and inclusive design, which form the foundation of the IAED 3301 course, were directly connected to the information shared during the event. Examples such as gender-neutral signage and the use of culturally harmonious iconography demonstrated the need for students to adopt design approaches that fully encompass human diversity. These approaches ensure that spaces become more accessible and user-friendly for individuals of different age groups, ability levels, and cultural backgrounds.

The event also addressed the impact of technology on wayfinding systems. Topics such as smart homes and digital wayfinding solutions were explored, highlighting how modern technologies reshape the ways people interact with spaces. The integration of these innovations into the design process was discussed in detail, showcasing the opportunities they bring to interior architecture projects. Students gained insights into how such technologies enhance human experiences.

This event enabled students to integrate inclusive design principles into their projects and better understand the role of topics such as human behavior, cognition, and perception in the design process.

We extend our gratitude to M.S. Architects Marwan IBRAHIM and M.S. Ahmet ALJENBAZ for sharing their valuable insights and inspiring interior architecture students during this event.
