On October 3rd, 2024, as part of the IAED 3001 Space Design Studio V course led by Asst. Asst. Prof. Enes Can KILIÇ, Dr. Melda YILDIZ, and Research Assistant Hakan BAL, students had the opportunity to closely examine interior architecture practices at one of Antalya's leading hotels, Akra Barut. During this technical trip, the hotel lobby, Pablito Bistro and Asmani Restaurant were visited. The students carefully observed the seating arrangements, material selections, and the functionality of the service areas in these spaces, exploring how interior architecture impacts human experience.

The lobby of Akra Antalya Hotel was the first area the students examined. They focused on how the seating arrangement influenced social interactions within the space. At Pablito Bistro the students analyzed how the warm and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant was related to the seating arrangement and the materials used. They observed that ergonomic design not only provided comfort but also allowed guests to enjoy the space for extended periods of time. Additionally, the students noted the effects of color schemes and lighting on human behavior, experiencing firsthand how these elements shaped the restaurant’s overall ambiance.

Lastly, the more luxurious and elegant atmosphere of Asmani Restaurant helped students better understand the importance of material quality and attention to detail in interior design projects. With high ceilings, carefully selected furniture, and a panoramic view, the overall aesthetic value of the restaurant was elevated. The students observed how these elements transformed the guest experience. They also noted how the seating arrangement balanced opportunities for socializing and privacy within the space.

This technical trip allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of how the built environment affects human behavior and performance in interior architecture projects. They discovered that space design not only offers a visual experience but also creates emotional and functional engagement. The students will now be able to apply these insights in their future design processes.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Akra Antalya Hotel family for their warm hospitality and valuable contributions during our technical trip.
